Yvonne Julian-Hargrove received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Chemistry, with Honors, from the Illinois Institute of Technology (1976), and an MBA in Operations Management from Golden Gate University (1995). She began her career as a microscopist and is the author of several papers in the field of light microscopy. She then moved into sales and marketing and has been employed by The Dow Chemical Company in this capacity since 1979. In addition to reading, Yvonne’s hobbies include art appreciation, amateur astronomy, and Mandarin.

                                             

 

Teresa Holliday
Oakland, California

 

 

 

Teresa Holliday’s career in the industrial chemistry and food science industries has spanned more than 23 years, including positions in Research and Development, Toxicology and Industrial Hygiene, Technical Service, Manufacturing, Commercial Development and Marketing.  After receiving a BS in Chemistry from Howard University, Teresa worked for more than 16 years with The Dow Chemical Company at 4 US area locations.  She then joined Roquette America, and then Kerry Ingredients, where she is currently the West Coast Zone Manager for nutritional and functional foods, frozen desserts and beverage applications.  Teresa is a co-inventor on 3 US patents, is active with the Northern California Section of the American Chemical Society, and the National Organization of Black Chemists and Chemical Engineers and holds a number of awards for civic and corporate activities.  Teresa also serves on the Tuskegee University Food and Nutritional Sciences Advisory Board.

 

Beatrice Julian
Chicago,    Illinois

 

As an information specialist, writer, and professional storyteller, Beatrice Julian is interested in researching and documenting traditional forms of cultural expression. Her varied freelance writing and research assignments have resulted in magazine and newspaper articles, essays, elementary school textbook units, and poetry. In addition to her work in both public and academic libraries, Beatrice has also served as coordinator of an adult literacy program (Literacy for Every Adult program, or LEAP), an outreach coordinator with a public television station (the Ready to Learn initiative), and as a public policy research analyst with the Chapin Hall Center for Children at the University of Chicago. She is currently on staff at the DuSable Museum of African American History in Chicago, Illinois.
