Lydia Donaldson Tutt-Jones
Memorial Research Grant

Purpose:

To support research that identifies attitudinal and behavioral contributors to African American academic success. The interest is to increase the body of knowledge about African American students who are excelling in school to aid in the replication of that success for others. Focus may be upon student or parental variables, or both.

Eligibility:

Graduate students and professionals are eligible for this research grant. Students must be recommended by a faculty mentor who agrees to oversee the project and the submission of a publishable caliber paper upon its completion. There is no special application form, recommended format, or length of material required. Interested individuals should submit a letter of interest in applying for the award, curriculum vitae, a description of the proposed research project, including a timeline, plus a letter of recommendation from their faculty mentor, if students, or from their department chairperson, agency head, or officer of their professional association, if professionals. An original and five (5) copies of the application materials should be submitted (for a total of 6 complete sets), along with a stamped, self-addressed post card that will be used to acknowledge receipt of your application.

Award:

The grant is $2,000.00.

Awards Given: One each year. All applicants may re-apply.

Duration:

1 year.

Special Features:

1.  The Foundation may publish the final project.

2.  This memorial research grant is named for Lydia Cecilia Donaldson Tutt-Jones, an African American who recruited teachers from around the country to work with students in the Fort Lauderdale area public school system.

Limitations:

1.  Recipients must prepare a publishable caliber paper upon completion of the project and provide a copy to the Foundation.

2.  African American Success Foundation may invite Award recipient to be its guest and present the research results at the organization's annual Success Summit.
